Medical & Accessibility
Medical
Do you have a doctor and medical services on board?

Yes.  Our onboard Medical Centres are available 24/7 for emergencies.  In addition, we offer twice daily clinics for routine medical needs.  Our onboard medical facilities meet or exceed the standards for cruise ship medical centres adopted by the Cruise Line Industry Association (CLIA) and include some diagnostic and treatment abilities; however, the ship’s medical centres do not have the same resources as a land-based hospital.  They are staffed by full-time registered doctors and nurses who are trained to manage, stabilise, and treat most acute medical conditions. If more advanced care is required, guests may be transferred to a shoreside medical facility for continued treatment.  Guests unable to manage their daily personal care activities (feeding, bathing, dressing and toileting etc.) should travel with a caregiver who can assist with these tasks.

Do I have to pay for medical care onboard?

While medical services on board are subject to fees, Explora Journeys offers a complimentary initial consultation for non-complex conditions. We strongly recommend that all guests obtain comprehensive travel health insurance that covers medical treatment, emergency repatriation, and any related expenses.

Are there medical conditions that must be disclosed to Explora Journeys?

Yes. Guests with medical conditions that may impact their fitness to travel, particularly in relation to the ship’s itinerary are required to disclose this at the time of booking and provide a valid medical certificate.

What if I need oxygen on board?

Guests requiring oxygen therapy are welcome aboard Explora Journeys.  For safety and operational reasons, guests must notify guestcare@explorajourneys.com in writing prior to final payment if they intend to travel with oxygen equipment.  Portable oxygen concentrators approved for travel are preferred and permitted.

Electrical devices need to be compatible with the onboard power supply of: 120V/60Hz or 240V/60Hz.  Please be advised that there may be interruptions to the shipboard power supply and battery backup is recommended.  Concentrators should be carried on board as hand luggage. Small quantities of oxygen cylinders up to 680L / 55kg may be allowed under specific conditions, subject to prior approval and in compliance with safety regulations.  This includes a restriction of a single cylinder to be kept in the suite at any time.  We recommend bringing sufficient oxygen supply to cover the entire Journey, including time ashore.

Can I bring my CPAP machine on board?

Yes.  Electrical devices need to be compatible with the onboard power supply of: 120V/60Hz or 240V/60Hz.  Please be advised that there may be interruptions to the shipboard power supply and battery backup is recommended.  Ensure you bring all necessary masks and other supplies.  Distilled water and extension cables can be requested in advance at guestcare@explorajourneys.com.

Can I bring my service dog onboard?

A service dog is defined as "any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability". Emotional support animals are not included. Explora Journeys welcomes service dogs on board, provided they are in possession of all documents necessary for entry to the countries visited during the chosen itinerary. The immunisation requirements are established by government authorities and are subject to change without notice. Copy of all permits must be shared in advance with guestcare@explorajourneys.com.

The dog owner accepts to be responsible for the custody, nutrition, and general care of the animal. While in public areas, dogs must be on a leash, harness, or other restraining device. Note that the ship's Hosts cannot care for the dog, nor can the dog be left unattended.

What accommodation is available if I am deaf/hard of hearing?

A portable kit will be set in your suite. It provides alerts for door knocking, telephone ringing and emergency alarms. It also offers a teletypewriter which interfaces with the Guest Services Desk.

I am on dialysis – can I sail on board?

Explora Journeys does not provide individual haemodialysis.  However, guests who are stable and able to independently manage home peritoneal dialysis are welcome to sail.  Please be aware that there are risks associated with travelling while undergoing dialysis. It is crucial to discuss your risk with your nephrologist before choosing to travel.  Please notify guestcare@explorajourneys.com of your condition at the time of booking or at least 30 days before sailing.   Guests on peritoneal dialysis are recommended not to travel on remote itineraries or those with multiple days at sea due to the lack of access to specialist care.   Guests who require peritoneal dialysis are responsible for supplying all equipment, medications and supplies necessary to self-perform dialysis.  You are also responsible for ensuring these are safely on board on time prior to sailing.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

Guests should indicate any allergies, dietary restrictions, and special requests at the time of booking.

Will I need a Vaccine Passport?

Guests are strongly advised to consult their healthcare provider or a travel medicine clinic prior to departure for guidance on recommended or required vaccinations based on the planned itinerary. Explora Journeys cannot be held responsible for guests who fail to follow infectious disease prevention recommendations or who do not possess the necessary vaccinations to enter specific ports during the Journey.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance?

We strongly recommend that all guests secure comprehensive travel insurance from the time of booking through to the completion of their Journey. This should include coverage for Journey cancellation, medical assistance and expenses, as well as loss or damage to luggage.

Are guests who are pregnant permitted to sail?

For the health and safety of both mother and unborn child, Explora Journeys cannot accommodate guests who will be more than 23 weeks and 6 days pregnant at any time during the Journey. If you are pregnant but will be less than 23 weeks and 6 days at any point during the Journey, you will need to provide a letter from your obstetrician confirming your expected due date, that your pregnancy is low-risk, and that you are fit to travel without immediate access to specialised obstetric or neonatal care.

If you have already booked and do not meet this requirement, please contact your Travel Advisor or email guestcare@explorajourneys.com.   Explora Journeys reserves the right to refuse boarding rights to any Guest who appears to be in an advanced state of pregnancy or who does not provide the medical certificate and shall have no liability in respect of such refusal.

Accessibility

What accessibility arrangements do you offer on board?

A pool lift can be installed at the Atoll pool on Deck 10 and Conservatory Pool on Deck 11, by prior request to Guest Services.

Security
Which items are forbidden on board?

If explosive materials or firearms are detected, law enforcement will be immediately alerted. Guests shall not bring onboard any illegal drugs or other controlled substances, including, but not limited to, medical marijuana. Any attempt to bring Illegal drugs or controlled substances onboard may lead to denial of boarding.

Can I bring my drone onboard?

Guests are permitted to bring drones, though they must be stored safely in suites as their use on board is strictly forbidden. Drones can be used off the ship and outside of port areas where permitted. Guests are fully responsible for complying with local authority regulations and for obtaining any necessary permissions for drone operations. Any liability, including environmental damage resulting from drone usage, is the guest’s responsibility. Explora Journeys assumes no liability for drones that may be confiscated by local authorities for violating local laws or for any accidents or injuries resulting from drone flights.
